Mayawati Accuses UP Government of Imposing Police Raj; Calls for Constitutional Responsibility

In a sharp criticism of the Uttar Pradesh government, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has alleged that the state is witnessing the establishment of “Police Raj,” where repressive policies are being implemented in the name of law and order. She claimed that the majority of poor, marginalized, helpless, and hardworking individuals are being indiscriminately arrested and imprisoned. This, she said, is a serious issue because civil matters are being treated like criminal cases, and opponents are being silenced.

Speaking to BSP workers in a meeting in Lucknow on Thursday, Mayawati said that the ruling party in the state is turning a blind eye to every crime committed by its leaders. “Is this how law and order will improve?” she questioned. She pointed out the administrative and police behavior in most districts to be politically, communally, and caste-driven and giving the perception that the law enforcement and administration were being misused for the sake of the vote bank politics of the BJP.

Mayawati also called upon the state government to be more serious and sensitive toward governance, just like courts are, and to do its constitutional work sincerely. She reviewed the party’s organizational activities in the meeting and appealed to her workers to strengthen BSP with their full commitment—physically, mentally, and financially.

This statement by Mayawati comes as a part of her continuous criticism of the UP government’s handling of law and order, adding to the political discourse in the region.
