In a rapidly unfolding scandal, BJP leader Manohar Lal Dhakad from Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, has once again found himself at the center of public outrage. Just days after a controversial video showing him in an objectionable position with a woman went viral, another clip has emerged—this time showing the same woman dancing with him on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The footage, which spread like wildfire on social media, led to their arrest under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Authorities have charged Dhakad and the woman under BNS Sections 296 (obscene acts in public), 285 (endangering or obstructing public roads), and 3(5) (joint criminal liability). According to sources, the viral videos were allegedly leaked in a blackmail attempt involving individuals connected to a contractor working with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
After being granted bail within 24 hours, Dhakad revealed that he was blackmailed for Rs 1 lakh by a group of individuals. “They demanded money to keep the video private. I gave them Rs 20,000 in cash, but when I couldn’t meet their final demand of Rs 80,000, they leaked the video online,” Dhakad said.
The NHAI responded swiftly to the controversy. MKC Infrastructure Company, which holds a road construction contract with the NHAI, terminated three of its employees allegedly responsible for the leak. The company has stated that it will cooperate with ongoing investigations and ensure that such breaches of trust are not repeated.
The fallout has been swift and severe for Dhakad. Following the video’s circulation, he was removed from his role as the National Minister of the Youth Association of Dhakad Samaj. Social backlash has intensified, with many in his community distancing themselves from the disgraced leader.
Adding to the political damage, the BJP has distanced itself from Dhakad. Party officials have clarified that he is not a primary member, subtly attempting to insulate the party from further reputational harm. Despite the scandal, Dhakad maintains that he is being framed and has hinted at taking legal action against those involved in the blackmail attempt.
The second video, which shows him dancing casually with the same woman after the earlier incident, has only added fuel to the fire. Public outrage continues to grow, raising questions about the misuse of public spaces, the conduct of political figures, and the potential exploitation of digital platforms for personal vendettas.
As investigations continue, the case highlights the growing complexities of privacy, public accountability, and political optics in the digital era.
