Kejriwal-Bhagwant Mann Meeting: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab cabinet ministers, and MLAs inside Kapurthala House in Delhi amid whispers of dissent in the Punjab unit. The meeting, following AAP’s dismal performance in the recent Delhi elections, is crucial for the party’s future since it now has only Punjab as its last bastion.
While party insiders claim it is an ordinary strategy session, the timing and high-profile attendance speak otherwise. Besides Kejriwal and Mann, senior leaders like Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak were also in attendance that lends credence to the importance of the meeting. According to reports, the discussion was largely oriented toward dissecting the Delhi election results and gearing up for the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls.
This is a routine meeting. We respect the people’s mandate in Delhi and will continue to be a strong opposition. AAP has held such meetings in Punjab and Delhi before,” said Narinder Kaur, MLA Sangrur. She also accused Congress of fueling rumors. “Congress should introspect on why they could not win a single seat in Delhi. We know how to run our party,” she added.
AAP’s electoral debacle in Delhi has shaken the party. Winning only 22 out of 70 seats, the BJP swept away the party’s decade-long rule in the capital. With Punjab being the only state under AAP’s rule now, the stakes are high. Kejriwal’s political future is being tested, and Punjab may now hold the key to the party’s survival.
Adding to the mystery is the news that Kejriwal is mulling a more active role in Punjab politics. Rumors are rife that he may contest from the vacant Ludhiana Assembly seat. However, party MP Malvinder Singh Kang dismissed such claims, terming the meeting as a “routine strategy session.”
For AAP, Punjab is no longer another state, but its last bastion. It is for the party how it manages to work out internal tensions and outline a revival strategy to chart out a political future. The results of today’s meeting may define not only the future of Punjab but also of AAP as a national player.
Now, with the change in political geography, everyone is looking at Kejriwal and his next step. Will AAP bounce back, or is it the beginning of the end? Time alone will tell.
