Kanpur Lamborghini Case: Shivam Mishra Granted Bail Hours After Arrest

The high-profile Lamborghini crash case in Kanpur took a dramatic turn on Thursday after Shivam Mishra, son of local tobacco businessman KK Mishra, was granted bail by a city court just hours after his arrest. The development came amid intense public attention surrounding the luxury car accident that left several people injured on VIP Road earlier this week.

Police formally arrested Shivam Mishra early in the morning and produced him before the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate around 10 am. Investigators sought his judicial custody, arguing that further interrogation was necessary to advance the probe. The case has sparked widespread discussion across the city, given both the seriousness of the accident and the background of the accused.

During the hearing, the prosecution pressed for remand, stating that custodial interrogation would help clarify certain aspects of the incident. However, the court questioned the urgency and necessity of granting police custody at this stage. After listening to arguments from both sides, the judge reserved the order and later pronounced the decision in the afternoon.

District Government Counsel (Crime) Dileep Awasthi confirmed that the court granted bail to Mishra upon furnishing a personal bond of ₹20,000. The decision came as a significant relief for the accused and his legal team.

Defence counsel Anant Sharma strongly opposed the remand plea, claiming that the police application contained discrepancies. He argued that the documents failed to clearly mention whether proper notice had been served, which weakened the prosecution’s case for custody. According to Sharma, these procedural lapses played a key role in the court’s decision.

Senior defence advocate Naresh Chandra Tripathi further contended that the arrest violated Supreme Court guidelines and provisions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). He submitted before the court that the alleged offences carry a punishment of less than seven years, and in such cases, the law requires police to record valid and specific reasons for making an arrest. Tripathi maintained that those requirements were not properly followed.

The court, after considering these arguments and the legal provisions, declined the remand request and ordered the release of the accused on bail. The defence described the order as just and appropriate, while also alleging that the arrest was carried out under pressure.

Following the court’s decision, Shivam Mishra stepped out of the crowded premises amid tight security. Wearing a white face mask, he moved swiftly through a heavy presence of police personnel, lawyers and media representatives before leaving in his vehicle. The atmosphere outside the court reflected the intense public and media scrutiny surrounding the case.

The Lamborghini crash on VIP Road earlier this week had left multiple people injured and triggered widespread outrage. The involvement of a luxury sports car and the background of the accused ensured that the incident remained in the spotlight. Authorities have indicated that the investigation will continue, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.

As the case progresses, it is likely to remain under close watch, both legally and publicly, as questions of accountability and procedure continue to shape the narrative around one of Kanpur’s most talked-about road accidents in recent times.
