Gunshots shattered the silence of Santokhpura in Jalandhar in the early hours of Saturday, leaving residents alarmed and a doctor’s family shaken. Around 1:40 AM, unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire outside the residence of Dr. Yashpal, a veterinarian currently posted in Moga. At least ten rounds were fired while the doctor and his family were inside their home.

CCTV cameras installed in the locality captured disturbing visuals of the attack. The footage shows two to three youths arriving on a motorcycle. One of them steps forward and begins firing, first targeting the doctor’s car parked outside the house and then aiming shots toward the residence itself. The attackers fled the scene within moments, disappearing into the darkness before anyone could react.
When police reached the spot, they found clear evidence of the firing. Bullet marks were visible on the outer wall of the house, the main gate, and the parked vehicle. Despite the intensity of the attack, no one inside the house was injured. The family escaped unharmed, but the sudden burst of gunfire has left them deeply disturbed.
Family members told investigators that they have no known enmity or rivalry with anyone. This has made the motive behind the attack unclear and added another layer of mystery to the case. Police are now examining all possible angles, including personal disputes, professional connections, and random criminal activity.
Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Jayant Puri confirmed that teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest. Officers are carefully reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and mapping potential escape routes used by the suspects. Forensic examination of bullet marks and other evidence is also expected to help the investigation move forward.
The incident has triggered concern among residents of Santokhpura, many of whom have demanded increased night patrolling and stronger security measures. Firing incidents outside residential properties have become a serious cause of worry, especially when families are present inside their homes.
As the investigation continues, police have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity that may help identify the attackers. While no lives were lost, the brazen late-night firing has once again raised pressing questions about urban safety and law enforcement vigilance in Jalandhar. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken once the accused are identified and apprehended.
