Batala, Punjab — June 27, 2025: Gunmen executed a brutal double murder in Batala late Thursday night, killing the mother and cousin of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Authorities confirmed that two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at close range, killing both victims on the spot. The Davinder Bambiha gang later claimed responsibility, stating that the attack was a revenge act for a previous murder allegedly linked to the Bhagwanpuria gang.
Attack Captured on CCTV
CCTV cameras clearly recorded the entire crime. Harjit Kaur, Bhagwanpuria’s mother and a former village sarpanch, and her nephew Karanveer Singh had just entered their SUV outside their residence on Batala-Qadian road. At that moment, two armed men approached on a motorcycle and fired nearly 15 rounds at them. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.
Victims Die En Route to Hospital
Passersby acted quickly and rushed both victims to Civil Hospital. However, Karanveer died before reaching the hospital. Doctors referred Harjit Kaur to a hospital in Amritsar, but she also died on the way.
Gang Retaliation Confirmed
Shortly after the incident, the Davinder Bambiha gang posted a message on social media claiming responsibility. They declared the killings as revenge for the murder of Gurpreet Singh alias Gora Bariyar, who died in a gang shootout this past May. According to police, members of the Bhagwanpuria gang orchestrated that murder.
Gang Rivalry Intensifies
Investigators revealed that several Bambiha gang members—some abroad and others in Punjab jails—actively run the gang’s operations and communicate through social media. Police now believe the gang warfare between Bambiha and Bhagwanpuria factions has intensified dangerously.
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s Notorious Background
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, currently behind bars, has long dominated the region’s criminal underworld. His gang allegedly specialized in extortion and murder. In recent months, police traced multiple extortion calls to his syndicate, particularly targeting industrialists in Punjab.
Police Launch High-Alert Investigation
Soon after the shooting, Batala police launched a statewide manhunt. Senior Superintendent of Police Suhail Qasim Mir confirmed that officers worked overnight to identify leads. “We formed multiple teams, recovered crucial CCTV footage, and narrowed down key suspects,” he stated. “We expect to arrest the accused very soon.”
FIR Registered, Motive Under Investigation
Police registered an FIR at Civil Lines police station. Investigators are examining all angles, including the possibility that Karanveer Singh was the primary target and that Harjit Kaur died unintentionally. Officers are analyzing this theory alongside other motives.
Public Reacts with Fear and Outrage
As the news spread, panic gripped the local community. Residents expressed fear over rising gang violence and demanded immediate government intervention. Meanwhile, the police assured the public that they are leaving no stone unturned in bringing the culprits to justice.
Police Close In on Accused
Currently, police have identified potential hideouts and are conducting raids in multiple locations. Reliable sources confirmed that the investigation is in its final stages and arrests are likely within hours.
