IPL 2025 Resume: Lucknow Super Giants vs RCB to restart the season; final decision on schedule expected Monday

IPL 2025 Resume

New Delhi, May 11 – After a brief suspension due to the India-Pakistan military conflict, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to resume either on May 16 or 17, with the opening fixture likely to feature Lucknow Super Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow. The high-voltage tournament, which was halted on May 9, could see a shift in its final venue from Kolkata due to adverse weather forecasts.

Ceasefire Paves the Way for Resumption

The announcement of a ceasefire on Saturday has cleared the air for the return of the world’s most celebrated T20 league. While an official IPL schedule is yet to be announced, sources confirm that teams have been instructed to call back players, and preparations are underway.

“The BCCI is working out the final logistics. The tournament is likely to resume by May 16 or 17, with Lucknow hosting the first game,” an IPL official confirmed to PTI.

BCCI in Final Talks with Franchises and Broadcasters

Speaking to the media, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said the board is actively coordinating with franchises, broadcasters, and state associations to finalize the schedule.

“There’s no official decision yet. The BCCI Secretary and IPL Chairman are in constant discussion with stakeholders. Every effort is being made to resume the tournament at the earliest,” Shukla stated.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also added that the board will consult with the Government of India before locking in the revised calendar.

Kolkata Final Under Threat from Rain

While Hyderabad is expected to retain hosting rights for Qualifier I and the Eliminator, there’s growing uncertainty around Kolkata’s Eden Gardens hosting the IPL final on June 1.

“Rain is a big concern in Kolkata on the final date. If the forecast remains grim, the final is likely to be shifted to Ahmedabad,” the source said.

Only Four Venues to Host Remaining Matches

The second half of the tournament will be hosted across four cities, namely Lucknow, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Delhi and Dharamsala have been ruled out, and equipment has already been removed from these venues.

This could be disappointing news for Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians, who may lose out on remaining home fixtures.

Abandoned Match: PBKS vs DC

The Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match that was abandoned midway due to escalating tensions might be decided by sharing points. PBKS were cruising at 122/1 in 10.1 overs before the match was called off.

Post-abandonment, players were moved to Jalandhar by bus, and then to Delhi via train, under tight security.

Playoff Race Heats Up

With CSK, RR, and SRH out of the playoff race, seven teams are still in contention for the top four spots. The current standings are:

  • Gujarat Titans – 16 points (NRR: 0.793)
  • RCB – 16 points (NRR: 0.482)
  • Punjab Kings – 15 points
  • Mumbai Indians – 14 points
  • Delhi Capitals – 13 points
  • Kolkata Knight Riders – 11 points
  • Lucknow Super Giants – 10 points

Every match from here on will be a virtual knockout, adding extra thrill to the competition.

Stay tuned for the official IPL schedule release expected Monday. The race for the playoffs just got a whole lot tighter!
