November 7, Baramulla: The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a joint anti-terrorist operation in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, following the detection of suspicious activities linked to terrorist elements. Acting on specific intelligence reports, security forces initiated the operation in the Panipura, Sopore area of Baramulla district.

According to official sources, vigilant troops noticed suspicious movements, which led to an intense exchange of gunfire after the terrorists, upon being challenged, responded with indiscriminate firing. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the ongoing operation, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “On 07 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint Operation launched by the #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice in Panipura, Sopore, #Baramulla. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress.”

The Kashmir Police also shared the development on their official social media handle, reporting, “Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of #terrorists in Panipora #Sopore area of #Baramulla, a joint anti-terrorist #operation was launched by Police and security forces. During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place. Further details shall follow.”

Spike in Terrorist Encounters Across Jammu and Kashmir

The operation in Baramulla is the latest in a series of anti-terror efforts by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, amid a rise in terrorist encounters in recent weeks. Just hours before this operation, an encounter took place in the Margi area of Lolab, Kupwara. The same day, in a separate encounter, security forces neutralized a terrorist in Bandipora.

Recent List of Terrorist Activities

In a span of just one week, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed multiple operations aimed at countering terrorism:

  • November 5: A joint operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was launched in the Chuntawadi Kaitsan area of Bandipora, where an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists.
  • November 5: In a separate operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police, alongside 22RR and the 92 BN CRPF, apprehended a terrorist associate, identified as Ashiq Hussain Wani, in Sopore’s Tujar Shareef area.

The operations underscore the ongoing efforts by security forces to contain and neutralize terrorist threats across the region.
