Indian airstrikes Pakistan – In a bold yet carefully calculated move, India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting key terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation comes just days after the horrific Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead, including one Nepali national.
According to the Ministry of Defence, Indian forces executed precision air strikes on nine terrorist camps, ensuring zero civilian casualties and avoiding any Pakistani military installations. This action was described as a “non-escalatory, focused counter-terror operation” intended to deliver justice without triggering wider conflict.
“The strikes were focused on eliminating the roots of cross-border terror planning. No Pakistani military facilities were targeted,” said Col Sofiya Qureshi, a Defence Ministry spokesperson.
Pahalgam Attack: The Spark Behind Operation Sindoor
The brutal attack in Pahalgam was carried out by The Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), according to intelligence agencies. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the investigation had clearly revealed Pakistani involvement in the planning and execution of the attack.
“The goal of the Pahalgam attack was not just to spill blood but to provoke communal unrest across Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of India,” Misri noted in a press briefing.
The victims, largely tourists and working men, were gunned down in what officials are calling a “deliberate attempt to destabilize the region’s peace and progress.”
PM Modi Names the Operation ‘Sindoor’ – A Symbol of National Mourning and Resolve
Sources close to the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that PM Narendra Modi personally chose the name Operation Sindoor, symbolizing the grief and strength of the widows left behind in the massacre. The name honors the women who lost their husbands, turning their tragedy into a national call for justice.
Arathy, daughter of one of the victims, said in an emotional statement from Kochi:
“There’s no better name than ‘Operation Sindoor’. I salute our Prime Minister, our Army, and everyone who stood up for our pain.”
Home Ministry on High Alert, Civilians Relocated
Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered all paramilitary personnel on leave to return immediately. Coordination is underway with J&K LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah to shift border residents to safer zones. Bunkers have been activated, and schools in border areas like Fazilka, Ferozepur, Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch remain shut today.
Ceasefire Violations and Pakistan’s Response
Shortly after India’s strikes, Pakistan responded with artillery shelling in the Bhimber Gali sector. Seven civilians were reportedly killed and 38 injured on the Indian side. The Indian Army is responding “calibratedly and effectively,” according to defence officials.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry of Pakistan’s ISPR acknowledged the damage and vowed retaliation. The situation remains tense, with international observers closely monitoring developments.
Global and Political Reactions
India’s action has drawn mixed global responses. While China expressed regret and urged restraint, Indian leaders across party lines hailed the strike.
“Extremely proud of our armed forces,” said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
“Jai Hind ki Sena,” tweeted UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the global importance of “zero tolerance for terrorism,” urging nations to act rather than issue empty condemnations.
Conclusion: A Message of Justice, Not Provocation
India’s Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to its strategic maturity, showcasing a resolve to act decisively against terror while maintaining a responsible posture. The world now watches how Pakistan responds, but New Delhi has made its stand clear — terror will not go unpunished.
