New Delhi: The son of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been booked by Delhi Police for multiple traffic violations, including riding without a helmet, driving dangerously, and misbehaving with police officials. The incident occurred on Nafees Road, Batla House, where a police patrol party intercepted the youth for reckless driving.
The police mentioned that the boy along with another person were riding a motorcycle on the wrong lane and noise was created while riding by a changed silencer and the vehicle was used in zigzag manner. He avoided surrendering the documents required when his vehicle was stopped. The boy reportedly said: “I don’t need an RC and a license. I am MLA Amanatullah Khan’s son,” as it appears in the police’s General Diary entry.
The MLA’s son is said to have called his father during the incident. Amanatullah Khan then allegedly spoke rudely to the Jamia Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) over the phone, telling the officer, “Mujhe bhi band kardo (You should arrest me as well).
The motorcycle, which had an AAP sticker, was impounded, and a case was registered under the Motor Vehicle Act. The boy was fined ₹20,000 for various offences, including ₹5,000 for using a modified silencer, ₹5,000 for driving without a licence, ₹2,000 for riding without a helmet, ₹1,000 for dangerous driving, and ₹2,000 for misbehaving with a police officer.
The incident has come under heavy criticism, with most people questioning the alleged abuse of power and disregard for traffic laws. Delhi Police have insisted that the law is applicable to all citizens without any consideration to their connections.
No official statement has been given by the MLA on the matter.
