Hyderabad Techie Murder: Man Allegedly Kills Ex-Wife Over Domestic Dispute, Arrested After Dramatic Standoff

Hyderabad Techie Murder: A 29-year-old IT professional was allegedly stabbed to death by her former husband inside her apartment in Hyderabad, in a crime that police say was fuelled by anger over a domestic violence case and personal resentment. The shocking incident, which unfolded late Wednesday night, has left residents shaken and reignited concerns over escalating domestic disputes.

According to investigators, the accused, a man in his 30s from Telangana’s Peddapalli district, had married the victim in 2022. After their wedding in India, the couple moved to Canada, where both were employed in the IT sector. However, differences soon emerged between them. The woman later returned to India and filed a domestic violence case against him in Maharashtra. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2024, and she remarried in April 2025.

Police said the accused came back to India in March 2025 following his mother’s death. A look-out circular had reportedly been issued against him in connection with the domestic violence case, and his passport was suspended. This prevented him from returning to Canada. Officials believe he felt deeply resentful over the legal restrictions and blamed his former wife for the mental distress faced by his family. He is also said to have held her responsible for his mother’s death.

Investigators revealed that the accused allegedly planned the attack in advance. He tracked down her address through her social media accounts and moved to Hyderabad about two months ago, staying in a hostel. Police say he conducted a recce of the apartment before carrying out the assault.

On the day of the incident, he reportedly arrived at the flat with a bag containing two knives, a drilling machine and a can filled with around five litres of petrol. He allegedly forced his way into the apartment and locked himself inside the room where the woman was present. Officials said he stabbed her repeatedly in the head, killing her on the spot.

At the time of the attack, the woman’s mother-in-law was reportedly standing on the balcony. Family members quickly alerted the police. When officers reached the apartment, they found that the accused had poured petrol across the room and locked himself inside the toilet. He allegedly threatened to set the house on fire. After a tense standoff and negotiations, police managed to coax him out and take him into custody.

In his complaint, the victim’s second husband claimed that she was three months pregnant. However, police have clarified that this detail has not yet been confirmed and that the post-mortem report is awaited.

CCTV footage aired by local television channels shows the accused walking through the apartment corridor carrying a bag shortly before the crime. The visuals have sparked outrage and renewed discussions around the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts.

Police have registered a case of murder and are examining digital evidence, call records and other materials collected from the scene. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and further details will emerge after forensic analysis and questioning of the accused.

The tragic death of a young professional attempting to rebuild her life has once again highlighted how unresolved personal disputes can spiral into irreversible violence. As the city processes the shock, authorities have assured that strict legal action will follow and justice will be pursued in accordance with the law.
