Hindus Rally in Brampton After Temple Attack by Khalistani Extremists

Brampton, Canada, November 4, 2024 Hindus Rally in Brampton – A solidarity rally of over a thousand Canadian Hindus took place outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, near Toronto, on Monday evening, following a violent attack by Khalistani extremists at the temple the day before. The rally aimed to protest the increasing assaults on Hindu temples across Canada and to demand that Canadian authorities take immediate action to curb the rising Hinduphobia in the country.

Hindus Rally in Brampton : On Sunday, an Indian consular camp held at the Hindu Sabha Temple experienced what officials described as a “violent disruption.” Videos shared by the Hindu Canadian Foundation showed the assailants targeting women and children at the temple. The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), a prominent organization advocating for Hindu rights, expressed its outrage over social media, emphasizing that multiple Hindu temples across Canada were attacked during the sacred Diwali weekend. CoHNA’s post on platform X tagged Canadian political leaders, urging them to take a firm stance against anti-Hindu violence.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attacks, calling them “cowardly attempts to intimidate” Indian diplomats and Hindu worshippers. “Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve,” Modi declared on X. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India also issued a statement demanding that Canada take immediate steps to protect all places of worship, prosecute those responsible for the attacks, and ensure the safety of Indian nationals.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned the violence, stressing the importance of religious freedom in Canada. “The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable,” Trudeau wrote on X, while commending the Peel Regional Police for their swift response.

Peel Regional Police identified three suspects in connection with the attack: Dilpreet Singh Bouns, 42, of Mississauga; Vikas, 23, from Brampton; and Amritpal Singh, 31, of Mississauga. The suspects were arrested and are being investigated for their roles in the incident.

The Indian High Commission in Canada voiced deep concerns over the rising trend of extremism in Canada, citing previous incidents and urging the Canadian government to take action. Further consular events will now depend on the security measures implemented by Canadian authorities.

The rally in Brampton has underscored a widespread call within Canada’s Hindu community for stronger protections and condemnation of extremist violence. CoHNA has appealed to Canadian leaders to address what it sees as a worrying trend of Hinduphobia in the nation.
