Hamirpur Police Arrest Mohammad Afan After Encounter; Serious Charges Filed Under BNS, IT Act, POCSO

In a major development in the Hamirpur obscene video case, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Mohammad Afan, the prime accused, following a police encounter on Devgaon Road in Sumerpur area late on Tuesday night.

According to official sources, Afan was injured during the encounter and has been taken into police custody. He is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision.

Encounter Took Place During Attempt to Arrest Accused

Police said the encounter occurred when a team from Sumerpur Police Station attempted to arrest Afan, who was wanted in connection with multiple serious offences, including the creation and circulation of obscene videos.

During the operation, Afan allegedly opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliatory action. He was subsequently overpowered and arrested. An illegal firearm and live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

Multiple Serious Charges Registered

According to the official police statement, Mohammad Afan is an accused in a case registered under the following sections:

  • Section 67A – Information Technology Act (publishing or transmitting sexually explicit content)

  • Sections 3/5(1) – Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act

Police confirmed that Afan was absconding and had been declared a wanted accused before the encounter.

Case Linked to Viral Obscene Videos

The arrest follows public outrage over obscene videos allegedly recorded and circulated without consent, which had gone viral on social media. The case had earlier drawn attention due to its sensitive nature and the involvement of young victims.

Authorities have maintained that the investigation is being conducted strictly on the basis of evidence, digital records, and victim statements.

Police Emphasise Rule of Law

Hamirpur Police stated that the action was part of a lawful operation and reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in sexual exploitation, cybercrime, or offences against minors.

Officials also appealed to the public not to spread unverified claims or inflammatory content related to the case and to allow the legal process to proceed.
