Gurdaspur, Punjab – April 20, 2025: In an unprecedented administrative move, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya has transferred 250 police personnel in a single day, signaling a renewed and intensified battle against the drug menace gripping the border district.

The reshuffle, described as one of the biggest in Gurdaspur’s recent police history, comes as part of a two-pronged strategy—a long-pending rationalization of the police force and a proactive step to combat cross-border heroin smuggling.
A Long Overdue Cleansing of the Ranks
According to senior officials, many of the transferred personnel had been stationed at the same postings for several years, leading to inefficiencies and compromised vigilance. SSP Aditya, using a performance review mechanism, assessed officers based on parameters like crime detection, drug enforcement efforts, pending investigations, and public grievance redressal.
“Those who delivered have been retained. Those who didn’t, have been shifted,” the SSP said, emphasizing that the move was purely merit-based.
Key Transfers: SHOs and Police Post In-charges Moved
As part of the reshuffle:
- Three Station House Officers (SHOs)—Gurmeet Singh (Gurdaspur City), Onkar Singh (Behrampur), and Mohan Lal (Puranashala)—have been relieved from their duties.
- The in-charge of Jaura Chhattran police post has also been replaced.
- A majority of the transferred officers have been strategically posted across the district’s 12 police stations, while others have been moved to the Police Lines.
Sources suggest more transfers are in the pipeline, as part of a comprehensive restructuring plan.
Strict Accountability: Lawkeepers Must Follow the Law
In another bold step, the SSP impounded vehicles of an ASI and a constable after discovering illegal modifications during a routine check. “Law enforcers should never bend the very laws they are meant to uphold,” he remarked firmly.
This move underscores the SSP’s commitment to discipline and accountability, sending a strong message to the entire force.
Drugs and Drones: A New Front in the Border War
The Gurdaspur district, particularly the regions of Dorangla, Behrampur, and Kalanaur, has long been on the radar for Pakistani drone-based heroin smuggling. Intelligence inputs suggest both state and non-state actors from across the border are involved in flooding Punjab with Afghanistan-origin heroin via drones.
“The battle against Pakistani drones and drugs was losing steam. With this new setup, we’re putting boots back on the ground,” said a senior SP-rank officer. “This isn’t just about transfers—it’s a mission reboot.”
Recognition Where Due
While reshuffling the underperformers, the department also took time to honor its achievers. Sixty police personnel received certificates of appreciation for their commendable work in fighting crime and maintaining law and order.
What This Means for Gurdaspur
This major overhaul of the police setup is expected to breathe new life into the anti-drug operations in one of Punjab’s most sensitive border districts. The strong stance taken by SSP Aditya reflects a no-nonsense approach towards inefficiency, political interference, and complacency within the ranks.
With the new team in place and morale high, Gurdaspur’s fight against heroin smuggling and crime is all set to gain fresh momentum.
