Goa Mini Cooper Crash Kills 23-Year-Old Hotel Employee, Driver Arrested

A tragic late-night road accident in Goa has left one young woman dead and another person seriously injured after a speeding Mini Cooper Convertible crashed into their motorcycle on Sunday night. The incident occurred on the busy Bambolim–Dona Paula road near Manipal Hospital Goa, sending shockwaves through the local community.

According to police officials, the victims were identified as Diksha Parwadkar, 23, and her colleague D Arunkumar, 26. Both worked at a five-star hotel in Goa and were returning home after finishing their shift when the accident took place.

Investigators said the Mini Cooper convertible, allegedly driven by 21-year-old Darius Dias, rammed into the two-wheeler with considerable force. The impact was severe enough to throw both riders off the motorcycle. Reports suggest the bike was dragged or flung nearly 50 metres from the point of collision, highlighting the intensity of the crash.

People nearby quickly rushed to help the victims and emergency services arrived soon after. Both Diksha and Arunkumar were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors later confirmed that Diksha Parwadkar succumbed to her injuries. Her colleague Arunkumar suffered serious injuries and remains under medical care.

Police have taken Darius Dias into custody following the incident. He is the son of local businessman Andrew Dias, who reportedly owns bakeries and hotels in the state. Authorities have registered a case against him under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relates to causing death due to negligence.

Investigators are also examining details about the car involved in the accident. Initial reports suggest that the Mini Cooper had a temporary registration plate, indicating it had not yet been officially registered in Goa. Witnesses reportedly noticed decorative ribbons on the car doors, which are commonly seen on newly purchased vehicles, suggesting that the car may have been bought recently.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has raised serious concerns about the handling of the investigation. According to reports, they have accused authorities of maintaining a “complete blackout” regarding the progress of the case. Family members claim they have not received adequate information about the probe and are demanding greater transparency from the police.

The tragic incident has also sparked renewed concerns about speeding and reckless driving on the Bambolim–Dona Paula road, a busy stretch frequently used by commuters, students, and tourists. Locals say accidents on this route are not uncommon, especially during late-night hours when vehicles often travel at high speeds.

As the investigation continues, police are expected to examine CCTV footage, vehicle details, and witness statements to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.
