BJP Expels Leader, But Police Action Missing

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Gaurishankar Agrahari, its former district vice-president in Siddharthnagar, after a controversial video allegedly showing him with a teenage girl went viral.

While the party acted swiftly on disciplinary grounds, a pressing question remains unanswered: Why hasn’t Siddharthnagar police arrested the leader yet?

The Viral Video and Public Outrage

The purported video, said to be recorded in Bansi tehsil around a week ago, shows Agrahari in a compromising position with a girl. The clip triggered a storm on social media, with many demanding immediate arrest under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Despite the outrage, police have so far avoided taking him into custody.

Police Stand: Waiting for Confirmation

Circle Officer, Bansi, Mayank Tripathi, explained the police’s position:

“The video has come to notice. An inquiry is being conducted. If the girl is found to be a minor, strict action will be initiated under relevant sections of law,” he said.

This means the police are waiting for official confirmation of the girl’s age before booking the leader under POCSO provisions. Until then, they claim, an arrest would not stand strong in court.

Legal Loophole or Deliberate Delay?

The delay has sparked criticism. Legal experts point out that police can still register a preliminary FIR and proceed with investigation, especially when the content of the video suggests a serious offence.

Opposition voices allege that the police are buying time to shield a ruling party leader, while BJP leaders argue that the matter should not be politicised until facts are verified.

Agrahari’s Defence

The ousted leader has strongly denied the allegations.

“This video is doctored and politically motivated. I have served the party with dedication for years. This conspiracy has been hatched to malign my image. I will present my side before the leadership,” Agrahari said.

His denial, however, has done little to calm public anger.

Key Question: Why No Arrest?

The answer lies in a mix of legal procedure, political pressure, and investigative caution.

  • Police say they cannot file a POCSO case without proof that the girl is under 18.
  • Political circles claim local authorities are under pressure, given the leader’s BJP background.
  • Public perception remains that law enforcement is dragging its feet.

Key Highlights

  • BJP leader Gaurishankar Agrahari expelled after viral video controversy.
  • Police have not arrested him, citing pending inquiry and age verification of the girl.
  • Critics allege deliberate delay to protect the leader.
  • Legal experts call for immediate FIR and application of POCSO provisions.

The Siddharthnagar controversy has once again raised questions about the balance between politics and policing in Uttar Pradesh. While BJP has shown zero tolerance by expelling its leader, police inaction has left citizens asking: If the same allegations were against a common man, would he still be free today?
