Foxconn Begins Small-Scale iPhone 17 Production at Bengaluru Plant Ahead of Global Launch

Bengaluru, India – Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn has officially started small-scale production of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 at its newly established manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This unit is Foxconn’s second-largest manufacturing hub outside of China and marks a major milestone in Apple’s growing strategy to diversify its global supply chain through India.

According to reports, Foxconn has invested nearly ₹25,000 crore in setting up the Bengaluru plant, underscoring Apple’s long-term commitment to the Indian market. The production at this new facility is in addition to the iPhone 17 units already being manufactured at Foxconn’s Chennai unit.

Apple iPhone 17 Launch Event: Expected Date

Industry insiders suggest that the Apple iPhone 17 series will be unveiled on 9 or 10 September 2025 during the company’s annual global launch event. The lineup is expected to feature upgraded performance, improved display technology, and longer battery life.

A Boost for India’s Role in Apple’s Global Supply Chain

Foxconn’s Bengaluru unit recently faced a temporary production delay due to Chinese engineers returning home. However, the company has now filled the gap by bringing in experts from Taiwan and other regions, ensuring smooth operations.

Apple’s production in India has been scaling up rapidly. In the financial year 2024-25, the tech giant assembled 60% more iPhones worth nearly $22 billion in India, compared to the previous year. Apple CEO Tim Cook also revealed that a majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. in June 2025 were assembled in India, signaling the country’s increasing importance in Apple’s global roadmap.

Apple’s Ambitious Production Target for 2025

As per PTI reports, Apple aims to increase its iPhone production to 60 million units in 2025, up from 35–40 million units in 2024. This ambitious target highlights the company’s efforts to reduce dependency on China and strengthen India as a key manufacturing hub.

Growing iPhone Demand in India and Abroad

Recent data from S&P Global revealed that Apple’s iPhone sales in the U.S. touched 75.9 million units in 2024, with India exporting nearly 3.1 million units in March 2025 alone. Meanwhile, domestic shipments in India surged 21.5% year-on-year, reaching 5.9 million units in the first half of 2025. The iPhone 16 remained the best-selling model during this period.

Despite Apple’s rapid growth, India’s smartphone market continues to be highly competitive, with Vivo leading the April–June 2025 quarter with 19% market share, followed closely by other Chinese brands.

Conclusion

With the iPhone 17 production already underway in Bengaluru, Apple is not only preparing for its much-anticipated global launch but also cementing India’s role as a critical manufacturing hub. The move is expected to accelerate India’s position in the global smartphone market while boosting Apple’s supply resilience.

The iPhone 17 series launch in September 2025 could be a defining moment for Apple in India, as the company balances global demand with local growth opportunities.
