Ahmedabad, November 18:
Diljit Dosanjh will stop singing songs about alcohol when…: Punjabi rockstar makes promise at Ahmedabad concert.
Diljit Dosanjh Ahmedabad Concert: Punjabi music sensation Diljit Dosanjh, known for his energetic performances and chart-topping tracks, recently made headlines at his Ahmedabad concert by addressing controversies surrounding his songs with alcohol references. Responding to a Telangana government notice following a complaint from a Chandigarh resident, Diljit humorously suggested he would stop singing alcohol-themed songs—but only under one condition.
The notice, issued after his Delhi concert, warned him against performing songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence. Diljit, however, took the issue in stride, suggesting a nationwide change as a solution.
“Diljit Dosanjh will stop singing songs about alcohol the day every state becomes a dry state. I promise this,” he announced to the cheering crowd. He added, “Here’s an even better offer—wherever my shows take place, just declare a dry day for one day, and I won’t sing a single song about alcohol. For me, changing lyrics is really simple.”
Staying true to his word, Diljit refrained from performing any alcohol-themed songs during his Ahmedabad concert, in compliance with Gujarat’s dry state laws.
Diljit Dosanjh Ahmedabad Concert: A Lighter Take on Controversy
Diljit also poked fun at the double standards he perceived in the music industry. “Bollywood has countless songs about alcohol, but no one says anything. I have a few tracks like Patiala Peg, and suddenly it’s a problem,” he quipped. Highlighting his contributions to devotional music, Diljit urged his critics to take a broader view of his discography.
During his Hyderabad concert, as part of the Dil-Luminati tour, Diljit showcased his adaptability by tweaking his hit songs. In Lemonade, he swapped “daaru” (alcohol) for “coke,” and in 5 Taara, he replaced mentions of liquor shops with “hotel.” These adjustments turned controversy into a moment of humor, resonating with his fans.
A Critique of Double Standards
Addressing the audience, Diljit criticized what he called the “double standards” in the industry. “If an international artist performs, they can sing whatever they want. But, when it’s an Indian artist, you create issues. Let me tell you, I am Dosanjhawala, and I’m not backing down,” he asserted.
The incident underscores the ongoing debate around artistic freedom and cultural sensitivity in the entertainment industry. For Diljit, the controversy seems to have only amplified his charm and ability to connect with his audience
As his Dil-Luminati tour continues to captivate fans, one thing remains clear: Diljit Dosanjh knows how to turn challenges into memorable performances.
