Uttar Pradesh has witnessed another significant resignation from within its administrative framework. Prashant Kumar Singh, posted as Deputy Commissioner (GST) in Ayodhya, has tendered his resignation after stating that he was deeply hurt by allegedly offensive remarks made by Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

According to the resignation letter addressed to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh through proper administrative channels, Singh expressed emotional and moral distress over the remarks. He described himself as a disciplined government servant whose livelihood is linked to the state government and who remains committed to the Constitution, democracy, and institutional values.
In the letter, Singh stated that the comments made against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were inappropriate and crossed the limits of public discourse. He wrote that remaining silent in such a situation would have gone against his conscience, leaving him with no option but to resign from service.

The officer made it clear that his decision was not politically motivated but driven by personal conviction and respect for constitutional offices. He stated that he stands with the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government, and supports the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. At the same time, he opposed statements that, in his view, undermine democratic institutions and elected leadership.
Singh also raised concerns that repeated statements by the Shankaracharya could disturb social harmony and promote division in society. He mentioned that as a public servant bound by service rules, he found it morally difficult to continue in office while witnessing what he described as irresponsible and divisive remarks.
The resignation letter further notes that the comments in question were not isolated incidents but part of a pattern that could weaken public trust in constitutional governance. Singh emphasized that respect for democratic processes and elected representatives is essential for maintaining administrative discipline and social stability.
Dated January 27, 2026, the resignation bears the official signature of Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner (GST), Ayodhya. The letter states that he will continue to discharge his duties with full responsibility until the resignation is formally accepted by the competent authority.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the Uttar Pradesh government regarding the acceptance of the resignation. However, the development has triggered discussions in political and administrative circles, with observers noting the growing tension between religious commentary and constitutional governance in the state.
The resignation adds another layer to the ongoing debate over the role of public figures in political discourse and the impact such statements can have on government officials and institutional functioning.
