MLA Poaching Allegation: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had attempted to horse-trade AAP MLAs by paying them the “biggest bribe ever in the history of the country” have led to political developments, as Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor has ordered an ACB probe into the matter. The decision was taken after a formal complaint by the BJP, which rejected the allegations as “false and baseless”, claiming they were aimed at tarnishing the party’s image and creating unrest in Delhi after the polls.
Lieutenant Governor orders probe
The Lieutenant Governor has asked Delhi’s Chief Secretary to conduct an ACB probe to investigate these allegations. The official letter said, “Summon Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh. Conduct a detailed inquiry on who contacted the MLAs, how they were contacted and any other relevant information that would help bring out the truth of the matter. The ACB team then went to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence for investigation proceedings.
AAP’s counter
AAP leaders have claimed to have filed a counter complaint in response to the investigation. AAP MP Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP was doing some drama and threatened an independent investigation. They want to do drama. We want to file a complaint, we want action. The ACB should take action. I am going to the ACB office to file a complaint,” he said while addressing the media.
Vinay Mishra’s allegations
Against this backdrop, AAP leader Vinay Mishra alleged that before the election results were announced, BJP members personally approached him to join the party and offered a bribe of Rs 15 crore to switch sides. * “A member of the ‘Gali Galoch Party’ (the term AAP has coined for the BJP) approached me and offered Rs 15 crore to switch sides. I was assured of a position in the council of ministers if I could bring in one more MLA,”* Mishra alleged.
Kejriwal alleges horse-trading attempts by BJP
On Thursday, Arvind Kejriwal came out in public and claimed that 16 AAP candidates have received similar offers to defect from the BJP. “Some agencies are showing that the BJP is winning more than 55 seats. But if this is true, why are they approaching our candidates? This proves that the surveys are fabricated, and their only goal is to create an atmosphere to manipulate the results. However, not even one of our candidates will be poached,” Kejriwal asserted.
These incidents have further intensified the already simmering political battle between the AAP and the BJP in Delhi. The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days, with both parties filing complaints against each other and the ACB actively investigating the matter.
While Delhi awaits the results of the recently held elections, allegations and counter-allegations between the AAP and the BJP are likely to dominate the political discourse, adding another layer of controversy to an already tense atmosphere.
