CTU Bus Fire News: In a narrow escape that could have ended in tragedy, a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) bus caught fire near the Manimajra police post on Friday night, prompting a swift evacuation that saved the lives of all 12 passengers on board. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM when the bus, operating on route number 22 from Sector-43 bus stand to IT Park, was just minutes away from its destination.

According to initial information, sparks were seen emerging from the front section of the vehicle as it approached the Manimajra area. The bus driver and conductor immediately took charge of the situation, stopping the vehicle and assisting all passengers in getting out safely. Their quick action ensured that no lives were lost or injuries reported, even as the fire quickly intensified.
Within moments, flames engulfed the bus completely. Eyewitnesses described the terrifying scene, with fire and smoke billowing high into the sky. Firefighters arrived shortly after and managed to control the blaze, but the bus was completely gutted by the time the flames were extinguished.
Preliminary reports indicate that a short circuit might have caused the fire, although officials are yet to confirm the exact reason. Authorities are now investigating the incident, and CTU officials have assured a detailed technical examination to prevent similar events in the future.
The incident raises fresh concerns over the safety and maintenance standards of public transport vehicles in the city. However, the timely and brave response of the bus staff turned what could have been a major disaster into a story of survival and presence of mind.
