Congress MLA Surender Panwar arreste: The Directorate of Enforcement has arrested Surender Panwar, Congress MLA from Haryana. The Sonepat MLA was apprehended in Gurugram past midnight in connection with an illegal mining case.
In January, the federal agency conducted a raid on the premises of the 55-year-old legislator.
During the investigation, the agency had previously arrested Dilbag Singh, a former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator from Yamunanagar, along with one of his associates.
The money-laundering case originates from multiple FIRs filed by Haryana Police, which are investigating alleged illegal mining of boulders, gravel, and sand in Yamunanagar and neighboring districts. This activity continued despite a ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The ED is also investigating a suspected fraud related to the ‘e-Ravana’ scheme, an online portal launched by the Haryana government in 2020 to streamline royalty and tax collection and curb tax evasion in mining areas.
