Three coaches of the Chennai Central–New Jalpaiguri Superfast Express derailed near Jakhapura railway station in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday morning, triggering a swift response from railway authorities. Officials confirmed that no passengers were injured in the incident and all those on board were safe.
The derailment occurred at around 8:51 am as the train was passing through the Jakhapura section under the East Coast Railway zone. One air-conditioned coach and two general coaches jumped off the tracks. Despite the sudden jolt, there were no reports of panic-related injuries, and the situation was quickly brought under control by railway staff present at the site.
Railway officials described the incident as a minor derailment. Passengers from the affected coaches were promptly shifted to other coaches of the train and provided necessary assistance. A helpline number, 8114382367, was activated to address passenger queries and share updates related to the incident.
Senior railway officials and technical teams rushed to the spot soon after the derailment was reported. A rescue and restoration team was also dispatched from Bhadrak to assess the damage and begin clearance work. Officials said efforts were being made to restore the affected track at the earliest to minimize disruption to rail traffic on the busy route.
According to the East Coast Railway, there was no loss of life or major damage to railway property. While some train services in the section may face temporary delays, authorities assured that normal operations would resume soon once restoration work is completed.
