Chandigarh Weather Update: Hailstorm and More Rain Predicted, IMD Issues Alerts

Chandigarh Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chandigarh and the surrounding areas today, warning of potential hailstorms, lightning, thunder, and gusty winds. The city woke up to persistent rain on Friday, December 27, which has brought a significant dip in temperatures, thanks to an active western disturbance influencing the region’s weather.

Today’s Weather in Chandigarh

The rains that began early this morning are likely to continue during the day and will be accompanied by dense fog. The IMD has also predicted more rain on Saturday, December 28, for which it has issued a yellow alert. The maximum temperature on Saturday is likely to be around 18°C while the minimum temperature will be 11°C.

Chandigarh Weather Update: How Long Will the Rain Last?

The wet spell shall recede by Sunday, that is December 29 to give the city a welcome break from continuous rainfall but dense fog is likely to persist even on that day keeping vision low. The IMD kept a yellow alert for New Year day, cautioning traffic and air commuters.

As New Year approaches, Delhi is also preparing for thick fog from December 30 to January 2. In the same period, the minimum temperature is expected to plummet to 6°C while the maximum may be anywhere between 18°C and 19°C. The IMD has not forecasted rain or hailstorms for the national capital until January 2, so it’s a dry start to 2024, foggy, however.

Travel and Health Advisory

Inclement weather with low visibility prevails over Chandigarh and the surrounding region. Travelling residents are advised to exercise caution. Layering with warm clothing is also suggested as temperatures continue to be low.
