Schools across Chandigarh are set to reopen on Monday, January 19, following the winter break, with revised winter timings announced by the Department of School Education. The decision has been taken in view of the changing weather conditions to ensure the safety and comfort of students while maintaining academic continuity.
The revised timings will apply to all government and private schools in the Union Territory. Officials confirmed that the new schedule will remain in force until further instructions are issued by the department.
As per the updated order, single-shift schools will function from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Meanwhile, double-shift schools will operate in two sessions, with the morning shift running from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm and the afternoon shift from 1:15 pm to 4:30 pm.
Education department officials said the adjustment in timings aims to protect students from harsh morning cold while ensuring that learning activities resume smoothly after the break. The department emphasized that the move is purely in the interest of students’ well-being and academic progress.
School administrations have been instructed to strictly follow the revised schedule and ensure a smooth transition as classes resume. Parents and guardians have also been advised to make necessary changes to transportation and daily routines according to the new timings.
With the reopening of schools, regular academic activities, classroom teaching, and assessments will continue as per the academic calendar. Teachers have been asked to help students settle back into routine learning after the winter vacation.
Authorities added that if weather conditions change significantly in the coming days, further decisions regarding school timings will be communicated officially.
