A shocking daylight murder in Chandigarh has left residents shaken after a well-known property dealer Preet Nagra, was shot dead near Sector 9 on Wednesday afternoon. The brazen attack took place in a busy area, raising fresh concerns about public safety in one of the city’s most prominent sectors.
Preet Nagra, also known as Chini Kubaheri, was a resident of Kubaheri village in Mullanpur and was actively involved in the local real estate business. He was known in the property dealing community and followed a regular routine that included daily workouts at a gym in Sector 9.
According to initial reports, Nagra had just finished his workout at the Body Zone gym and was walking towards his car parked nearby when the attack unfolded. Two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire without warning. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, with estimates suggesting that around 8 to 12 rounds were fired in quick succession. Nagra was hit several times and collapsed on the spot, leaving bystanders in panic.
He was immediately rushed to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The sudden and violent nature of the attack has stunned locals, especially because it occurred in broad daylight in an otherwise well-secured area.
The incident took place on a slip road connecting Sector 9-8 and the 18/17 light point, a location that usually sees regular movement of vehicles and pedestrians. The fact that the attackers managed to carry out the shooting and escape so quickly has raised serious questions about security and surveillance.
Chandigarh Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case. Teams are currently scanning CCTV footage from nearby cameras to trace the movements of the attackers. Witnesses are also being questioned to gather more clues about the suspects and their escape route. Despite these efforts, the motive behind the killing remains unclear at this stage.
Investigators are exploring multiple angles, including possible personal enmity, business rivalry, or other underlying disputes. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the reason for the attack. The police have assured that all leads are being thoroughly examined.
