Chandigarh: With continuous heavy rainfall lashing the region, the Chandigarh Administration has announced the extension of holidays in all schools across the city till September 7.

The decision, taken as a precautionary measure, aims to safeguard the well-being of students, teachers, and staff members. The closure order applies to all government, aided, recognised, and private schools operating in Chandigarh.
In recent days, the city has witnessed widespread rainfall, leading to waterlogging in several areas and disruptions in daily life. School authorities and parents had raised concerns over the safety of children traveling in such weather conditions. Responding to the situation, officials emphasized that the health and security of students remain their top priority.
“The closure is a necessary step to avoid any untoward incident. We urge parents and citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow the safety advisories issued by authorities,” a senior official said.
The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates regarding the reopening of schools will be announced depending on weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the administration has also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Emergency helplines have been activated to provide assistance in case of waterlogging or related hazards.
This extension comes just a day after Punjab authorities ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities in the state till September 7, owing to the flood-like situation caused by relentless rainfall.
For now, students in Chandigarh can expect an extended break, while teachers and parents await the administration’s next update on the reopening schedule.
