Mhow Violence: Some people have been arrested following violent incidents during the celebration of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Mhow in Madhya Pradesh and Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation to ensure law and order.

Mhow: 13 arrested for stone-pelting, arson

A riotous rally in Mhow town of Indore district turned violent, resulting in stone-pelting and arson. Police have arrested 13 people in connection with the violence.

According to Indore Collector Ashish Singh, four people have been injured in five incidents at different places in Mhow. The violence reportedly started near a mosque when a brawl broke out between two groups, who were initially celebrating together. The situation turned violent after firecrackers burst.

Cars were also targeted in the clashes, in which three cars and several two-wheelers were set on fire. The police have filed an FIR against 17 persons, and the authorities are considering invoking the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against some of the accused.

Violence hotspots in Mhow

According to Rahul Sharma, in-charge of the Mhow police station, the encounters took place at key locations around Tal Mohalla, Sewa Marg, Patti Bazaar, Manek Chowk and Jama Masjid. Security personnel are checking CCTV camera footage and mobile video recordings to identify additional suspects responsible for the violence.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Nimish Agarwal assured that security personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations to prevent further violence.

Gandhinagar: 11 detained after motorcycle rally turns violent

A late-night motorcycle rally celebrating India’s Champions Trophy win in Dehgam town of Gandhinagar turned violent. At around 10:30 pm, the rally reached near a mosque located in a minority dominated area, where the bikers revved their engines and honked horns, disrupting Ramzan prayers.

After the encounter, many bikers abandoned their motorcycles and fled. Angry locals are reported to have vandalised the abandoned bikes. Police have detained 11 people for questioning.

Deputy Superintendent of Police P.N. Vanda said officers were investigating the matter and studying security footage to determine responsibility.

Officers on high alert

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi said it was important to maintain peace. “Adequate number of police force has been deployed at all sensitive places. We are working towards restoring normalcy as soon as possible,” he said.

Police are still investigating the incident and further arrests are likely after officers study the video and witness statements.

The situation in Mhow and Gandhinagar is currently said to be under control and the government has asked people to maintain calm and not let the situation worsen further.
