Fullerton, California :—
California Plane Crash: A tragic plane crash in Southern California on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of two people and left 18 others injured after a small aircraft plunged into the rooftop of a commercial building in Fullerton, Orange County.
The accident happened around 2:09 p.m., according to Fullerton Police Department spokesperson Kristy Wells. Emergency responders, including firefighters and police, were quickly dispatched to the scene where they worked to put out a fire that was ignited by the crash and evacuate nearby businesses.
The building appears to be the premises of Michael Nicholas Designs, a furniture upholstery manufacturer, which was ravaged by the fire. There are sewing machines and textile stock here, as evident from the visible signage on the property.
Of the 18 people who were injured, 10 were taken to local hospitals for treatment, while the remaining eight were treated at the scene and were later discharged, police officials said.
Authorities have not confirmed the type of aircraft or whether casualties and injuries were from the plane or in the building at the time of the crash.
According to FlightAware, flight-tracking data, the aircraft was a four-seat, single-engine plane that crashed less than a minute after takeoff. Security camera footage from a nearby business, Rucci Forge, captured the harrowing moment when the plane tilted on its side before crashing into the building, triggering a fiery explosion and a thick plume of black smoke.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
The community has been shocked and grieved by the tragic event, with many awaiting updates on the condition of the injured and the progress of the investigation.
