Budaun, Uttar Pradesh – June 2025: In a bizarre turn of events that stunned both families and triggered public curiosity, a newlywed woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district eloped with her alleged lover just days after her marriage — prompting an unexpected reaction from her husband.

Sunil, a 23-year-old groom, married his 20-year-old bride on May 17 in a traditional ceremony. After spending just over a week at her in-laws’ home, the woman left for her maternal residence. However, what followed shocked everyone: she fled with her alleged lover ten days later, prompting Sunil to file a missing person’s report.
But the real twist came when the runaway bride walked into the local Bisauli police station on her own and declared in front of officers and family members that she wanted to live with her lover — not her husband.
“At Least I’m Not Another Raja Raghuvanshi”
Speaking to the media, Sunil gave a rather composed and heartfelt reaction, saying,
“I’m just glad my life didn’t get ruined like Raja Raghuvanshi. She found love, I’m free, and we’re all safe — that’s what matters.”
He further added that he had planned a honeymoon trip to Nainital but respects her choice.
Sunil’s reference was to a recent high-profile murder case involving Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Indore who was allegedly killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya by his wife and her lover, in a premeditated plot.
Families Reach Peaceful Agreement
According to SHO Harendra Singh, both families reached a peaceful settlement.
“All items exchanged during the wedding — including jewelry and household goods — were returned. Neither party wishes to pursue legal action.”
Radha, the groom’s sister-in-law, added:
“She only stayed with us for eight days. Once she left, she never returned. We were shocked, but now that things are clear, we just wanted our gifts returned. It’s over now.”
A Growing Pattern or Isolated Incident?
While such incidents are not entirely unheard of, the public’s reaction has been magnified due to the recent Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, which gained nationwide attention. The murder, orchestrated by Raja’s wife and her lover, raised serious concerns about trust and betrayal in modern relationships.
Social media users were quick to comment on Sunil’s mature reaction. Many lauded his dignity and clarity in an emotionally challenging situation, with one user writing, “That man dodged a bullet — literally and emotionally.”
