Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will not deliver his scheduled keynote address at the ongoing India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, the Gates Foundation confirmed on Thursday.
The announcement came as the high-profile global AI gathering entered its key sessions at Bharat Mandapam. In a statement shared on social media, the foundation said that after careful consideration, Gates would not be delivering his keynote address in order to ensure that the summit remains focused on its primary objectives.
The decision comes amid renewed public discussion linked to the ongoing controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, although the foundation did not provide further details. Observers say the move appears aimed at preventing external debates from overshadowing the summit’s larger agenda centered on artificial intelligence, innovation, and global cooperation.
Despite Gates stepping back from the keynote stage, the foundation clarified that it remains fully engaged in the event. Ankur Vora, President of the Africa and India Offices at the Gates Foundation, will represent the organisation and is scheduled to address participants later during the summit. The foundation reiterated its commitment to advancing shared goals in India, particularly in public health, digital transformation, and equitable development.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, being held from February 16 to 20, has drawn global policymakers, technology leaders, startup founders, and international institutions.
