Amritsar, Bikram Majithia arrest – In a dramatic turn of events, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau conducted a massive raid at the residence of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday. The officers seized 29 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 2 iPads, 8 personal diaries, and several crucial documents during the early morning raid.

The operation was led by AIG Swarandeep Singh PPS, a recently reinstated officer currently posted with the Vigilance Bureau’s Flying Squad in Mohali. Simultaneously, officials raided 24 other locations across Punjab, intensifying the crackdown linked to an ongoing investigation.
High Tension Outside Majithia’s Home After Bikram Majithia arrest
As news of the raid spread across social media, scores of SAD supporters and senior party leaders gathered outside Majithia’s residence in Amritsar. The crowd raised loud slogans against the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, accusing it of political vendetta.
Police forces swiftly barricaded the approach road, preventing protestors and media from accessing the premises. Security was tightened to prevent any disruption during the operation.
“They Terrorized My Children,” Says Majithia
Inside the residence, tension was palpable. Majithia’s wife, Ganieve Kaur, said nearly 30 officials stormed into their house without prior notice. “What is happening here? How can they enter our home like this without informing us?” she asked the officers on camera.
Majithia, visibly upset, shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) where he confronts a vigilance official. ‘They terrorized my children. They barged into my house like I am a criminal,’ he said. The former minister directly accused the AAP government of using state machinery to silence political opponents ahead of the upcoming elections.
SAD Leaders Slam AAP Over ‘Targeted Raid’
Former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and other top Akali leaders condemned the raid, calling it “a desperate attempt to malign opposition voices.” “This is not governance. This is intimidation,” she told reporters.
The SAD continues to claim that authorities are framing Majithia in politically motivated cases and have failed to present any substantial evidence in court.
Bikram Majithia arrest Background: Drug Case and Financial Probe
Investigators are currently probing Majithia in a high-profile narcotics case. The previous Congress-led Punjab government booked him under the NDPS Act on December 20, 2021. In March this year, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) uncovered ‘suspicious financial transactions’ involving companies allegedly linked to Majithia and his family.
Officials stated that the SIT has expanded its probe to include overseas transactions and cross-border financial links tied to the drug case. However, in contrast, SAD leaders argue that the investigators lack transparency and are pursuing a politically motivated agenda.
Political Battle Intensifies in Punjab
The raid has ignited intense political debate in Punjab. On one hand, the opposition accuses the AAP government of using fear tactics. On the other, the Vigilance Bureau defends the raids as part of a legal effort to uncover deep-rooted corruption and financial misdeeds.
As the 2025 state elections draw near, these high-profile developments continue to polarize Punjab’s political atmosphere. Furthermore, the Vigilance Bureau presses ahead with its crackdown to expose corruption and financial irregularities under the framework of law.
