In a tragic incident in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Girepunje lost his life, and several other police personnel were injured after a pressure-triggered Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated during a foot patrol. The patrol was conducted in response to a bandh called by Naxalites, aimed to enforce shutdowns across the region.

The explosion occurred near Dondra village on the Konta-Errabor road while ASP Akash Rao Girepunje and his team were on routine patrol duty to maintain law and order amid the bandh. Officials confirmed that the IED was planted by Naxalites, underlining the continuing security challenges faced in this Naxal-affected area.
Following the blast, all injured personnel were immediately rushed to the Konta hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite medical efforts, ASP Girepunje succumbed to his injuries, marking a significant loss to the local police force and community.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of security personnel working in conflict zones and highlighted the persistent threat posed by Naxalite insurgency in Chhattisgarh. Police authorities have vowed to intensify counter-insurgency operations while ensuring support and protection for their forces on the ground.
As investigations continue, security forces remain on high alert in the region to prevent further attacks and maintain stability ahead of the Naxalite-mandated bandh. The sacrifice of ASP Akash Rao Girepunje serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by those safeguarding peace in volatile areas.
