Rift in Haryana BJP: Anil Vij Makes Controversial Statement Against CM, Party Issues Show Cause Notice

February 10, 2025, Haryana: Fresh trouble for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana as senior leader and state minister Anil Vij has been issued a show cause notice following his controversial public remarks against Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and state BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli.

On Monday, the Haryana BJP issued the show cause notice, requesting Vij to explain his controversial statements within three days. The notice, sent by Mohan Lal Badoli, accused Vij of making damaging public statements against both the Chief Minister and the state party president, which were deemed to be in violation of party discipline and policies.

In his notice, Badoli pointed out that Vij’s acts were damaging the party’s image and were doing more harm in the election campaign. The notice further underlined that such statements went against the internal discipline of the BJP, which has a very strict code of conduct for its leaders and members.

Anil Vij, a seasoned politician and seven-time MLA, has been an outspoken figure within the party. However, his recent comments have sparked controversy, with many seeing them as a direct attack on the leadership of Haryana’s BJP.

Earlier this month, Vij shared several photos on social media alleging a connection between Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Ashish Tayal, a former associate of an Independent candidate whom Vij had defeated in the October 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. Vij’s post questioned the relationship between Tayal and Saini, suggesting that there was a conspiracy to sabotage his electoral victory.

Vij also posted a video with chants of “gaddaar” (traitor) in the background, implying that there was a plot to defeat him in the elections. He claimed that the same workers who had been associated with Tayal were seen with Chitra Sarwara, the Independent candidate who contested the election against him.

“Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai?” asked Vij, referring to Tayal’s ongoing association with Saini. The post raised questions over the loyalty and motivations of some BJP members, casting doubts over the internal unity of the party.

Anil Vij had won the Ambala Cantt constituency in the October 2024 assembly elections, but his statements have now caused a rift within the BJP. His comments and activities on social media have put into question the party’s unity at a time when the state is gearing up for the future elections.

The Haryana BJP’s current state of turmoil is not going to be calmed anytime soon. Whether Vij can provide the party leadership with a satisfactory explanation or whether this controversy will follow with more disciplinary action remains to be seen. The controversy surrounding the Haryana BJP highlights increasing divisions within the party, and leadership will need to address the issue if unity is to be maintained ahead of elections.
