Amarnath Yatra Suspended from Both Routes Amid Heavy Rain in Kashmir

The Amarnath Yatra 2025 has been suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to continuous heavy rainfall in Kashmir. The announcement was made by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir, through an official post on their X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Amarnath Yatra Suspended from Both Routes

As of now, more than 3.93 lakh pilgrims have already paid their respects at the sacred Amarnath cave shrine, a significant milestone for this year’s pilgrimage.

Heavy Rain Forces Authorities to Halt the Amarnath Yatra

The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, confirmed that the inclement weather starting early morning on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, has severely impacted the pilgrimage. Due to safety concerns, no yatri (pilgrim) was allowed to proceed from either the Baltal or Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps.

“Shri Amarnathji Yatra has been suspended for 30.07.2025 from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps,” stated DIPR, emphasizing the importance of pilgrims’ safety amid unpredictable weather conditions.

Movement From Bhagwati Nagar Also Affected

Further impacting the yatra, the authorities have decided to suspend movement from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The decision aims to prevent any congestion and ensure the safety of yatris, as weather conditions in the route areas remain unfavorable.

The official statement from the DIPR read:

“Due to the heavy rains in the yatra area, the movement of pilgrims from base camps has been affected. Therefore, it has been decided that no convoy movement shall be allowed towards the base camps Baltal and Nunwan from Bhagwati Nagar Jammu on July 31, 2025.”

Safety and Logistics a Top Priority

The Amarnath Yatra is a spiritual journey to one of Hinduism’s most revered shrines, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the pilgrims remains a top priority for the administration. Officials are closely monitoring weather conditions and will resume the yatra only when it is deemed safe.

Despite the current suspension, the number of pilgrims who have already completed the yatra reflects the devotion and spiritual significance of the Amarnath pilgrimage.

Authorities Urge Pilgrims to Stay Updated

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has urged all registered yatris and their families to stay in touch with official updates through verified government handles and helplines. The reopening of the route will be announced only after weather conditions improve.

The temporary suspension of the Amarnath Yatra 2025 is a necessary measure to protect the lives of thousands of pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey. Authorities continue to remain vigilant and are working tirelessly to restore the route once the weather stabilizes.
