A serious case of alleged blackmail and extortion has come to light in Barmer district of Rajasthan, where a woman from West Bengal has been arrested for allegedly trapping a lawyer in a personal relationship and using secretly recorded videos to demand money.
The accused, identified as Priyanka, had earlier worked at a spa in Balotra before shifting to Barmer. Police say she met lawyer Prem Kumar at a gym, where their acquaintance gradually turned into what appeared to be a romantic relationship. Investigators believe the relationship was part of a planned attempt to obtain compromising material.

According to the police complaint, Priyanka secretly recorded private moments using a hidden spy camera without the knowledge or consent of the lawyer. These recordings were later used to threaten him with public exposure.
The accused allegedly demanded ₹40 lakh from Prem Kumar in exchange for not releasing the videos. Facing serious personal and professional risk, the lawyer chose to approach the police rather than pay the money.
After receiving the complaint, police conducted a detailed inquiry, collected technical evidence, and traced the source of the recordings. Priyanka was arrested in Barmer and electronic devices believed to have been used in the crime were seized. Cyber experts are now examining the devices to determine how the videos were stored, accessed, and possibly shared.
A case has been registered under multiple sections related to extortion, invasion of privacy, and cybercrime. Authorities are also investigating whether the accused acted alone or was part of a wider network engaged in similar activities.
Police officials said such crimes have been increasing with the misuse of digital tools and hidden cameras. Victims often suffer emotional distress, social pressure, and reputational harm, which makes many hesitate before reporting such incidents.
The arrest in this case has brought some relief to the victim, and police have assured that strict legal action will be taken based on the evidence. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the alleged operation.
