Aligarh News : It is a shocking instance where a 30-year-old man from Nagla Khatkari village in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, Badal Babu, was arrested in Pakistan for crossing the border. The reason behind crossing the international boundary illegally is love for a woman he met on social media. He had started this romantic pursuit on Facebook, and now he has ended up in a Pakistani jail in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab. The local police took him into custody. A court has sent him to 14 days of judicial remand.
Love Story Born on Social Media
Badal Babu‘s love affair began on Facebook, where he became friends with a Pakistani woman. Their conversations online eventually grew into a romance, prompting him to take the bold and illegal step of crossing the border without a valid visa or travel documents to meet his love in person.
Previous Attempts to Cross the Border
Pakistani officials said that Badal, during interrogation, admitted that he had attempted crossing the border twice earlier but could not succeed. He succeeded in his third attempt and reached Mandi Bahauddin where he met the woman he was talking to.
Arrest and Investigation
The Punjab Police in Pakistan arrested Badal for illegal border crossing. He reportedly told authorities that his sole intention was to meet his lover. The court has ordered him to be presented again on January 10, 2025. Meanwhile, the police are also investigating whether there was any ulterior motive behind his illegal entry.
Home is Nagla Khatkari, the village of Badal’s family. “He came home 15 days before Diwali,” Kripal Singh, Badal’s father, said. “I know he was planning to go to Pakistan with his friend. He never discussed the girl with me.” Badal holds a valid passport but left it along with all travel documents at home.
The family stated that Badal called them twice on video calls in November. His mother had advised him not to go to Pakistan and suggested staying back in Delhi for work. He, however, left for Pakistan from Delhi despite the family’s warning. The family is clueless about the friend accompanying him and is now frantically searching for ways to bring him back.
This is not the first case of an Indian crossing the border for love. In July 2024, another man from Uttar Pradesh attempted to illegally cross the Khokhar Border Post in Jammu and Kashmir to marry a Pakistani woman he met online. He was intercepted by the Border Security Force (BSF) before he could succeed.
This story of Badal Babu warns against taking such risks for love across borders. While social media can get people closer to one another, in this case, it brings people to some unthought-of situations. Badal is now left to the judicial system of Pakistan, but the family will hold its breath in the hope that he would be brought safely back home.
