Air India has provided an update on the Delhi to San Francisco flight that made a precautionary landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport in Russia. The airline announced that regulatory clearances have been obtained for a relief flight, which departed Mumbai at 11:00 hrs and will ferry passengers out of Krasnoyarsk International Airport later today.

The carrier also stated, ‘Air India’s local support was activated to assist passengers, who were required by authorities to remain in the terminal building due to the absence of Russian visas. Food and beverage amenities at the terminal, which were closed for the evening, have now been opened, and meals are being provided to all passengers.

Representatives from the Indian consulate in Moscow traveled overnight and are now working with Russian authorities to arrange accommodation for passengers at nearby hotels, which have been on standby throughout the night.

Regulatory clearances have been obtained for a relief flight departing Mumbai at 11:00 hrs IST, which will transport the passengers from Krasnoyarsk International Airport later today.

Air India Update: Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers by this diversion, which was undertaken in the interest of safety.

The Indian embassy in Moscow stated that their team is in constant contact with the Russian airport, security authorities, and representatives from the Russian foreign ministry to provide support to the affected passengers.

The team has also been instructed to remain on duty in Krasnoyarsk until Air India’s replacement flight arrives.

Today’s precautionary landing of an Air India flight marks the second such incident on the same route. In June 2023, a San Francisco-bound flight from Delhi was also diverted to Russia due to a technical glitch. Two days after that emergency landing, a replacement Air India flight departed for San Francisco with the 232 passengers.
