Residents Raise Voice Against Neglect

The protest began at 10 a.m. near the Anganwadi close to Vishwakarma Mandir and Sachdeva Market Road. Led by Vijay Kumar, AAP State Vice President (Scheduled Caste Wing), the demonstration saw participation from a large number of local residents and party workers.

Prominent leaders present included AAP State President Vijay Pal, State Scheduled Caste Wing President Deshraj Sanawar, and several senior office bearers. They highlighted how the poor condition of Ramdarbar’s roads has become a daily hazard, particularly due to waterlogging during monsoons and the failure of drainage systems.

Protesters sat on hunger strike, including Ramesh Tank, Lalit, Madan Lal, Anish, Mamta, Asha, Rajesh Adiwal, Rakesh Sharma, Mandeep, Gulshan, Amandeep, and many others. By afternoon, the protest had gathered momentum with slogans echoing against the administration’s “indifference and negligence.”

Hunger Strike Concludes, Protest March Begins

By 4 p.m., AAP State President Vijay Pal, State General Secretary Sunny Aulakh, and Ward President Bawa ended the hunger strike by offering water and food to the protestors. Immediately afterward, a protest march was carried out across Ramdarbar, where people raised slogans demanding:

  • Immediate reconstruction of roads
  • A proper stormwater drainage system
  • Assured drinking water supply
  • Completion of pending development projects

The march culminated in the burning of the effigy of the Mayor, symbolizing residents’ anger at the Municipal Corporation’s inaction.

Key Issues Raised

AAP leaders and residents alleged that despite road construction projects being approved since 2022, the work remains stalled. They pointed out that recurring accidents are being caused by potholes and damaged streets, while the Mayor and administration remain “blind to people’s suffering.”

The protesters further demanded that two rainwater lines (Phase 1 and Phase 2) of Ward 19, already approved in the agenda, should be completed before any new roadwork begins. They argued this would prevent public money from going to waste, as roads would otherwise deteriorate again due to waterlogging.

Leaders Express Solidarity

Addressing the crowd, AAP State President Vijay Pal urged the Chandigarh administration and the Mayor to take “immediate and serious note” of the public grievances. He assured that AAP will continue to fight until Ramdarbar residents receive their basic rights, saying, “Good roads are not a luxury but a fundamental right of every citizen.”

The event was also attended by prominent figures from the party’s state executive, including J.D. Ghai, Hardeep (Councillor), P.P. Ghai, Vikrant Tanwar, Dinesh Paswan, Saini, Rajinder Hindustani, Shadab Rathi, and Khurcha, among others, who encouraged the protestors and extended their support.

Local Participation

A large number of Ward 19 residents also joined the protest, including Kulwinder, Rao Saheb, Sandeep, Ravi Bugga, Dimple, Lucky, Bablu, Bobby, Radhe, Sanjeev, Shubham Jha, Anil, Darshan, Monu Pal, Arun Everready, Sunny Ravan, Hemraj, Mukesh Pal, Son Garg, Vikas, Chand, and many others. Their participation reflected the growing frustration of the community.

AAP’s Stand

The Aam Aadmi Party reiterated that the fight for better infrastructure in Ramdarbar will not end until visible results are achieved. Leaders emphasized that basic civic amenities like safe roads and proper drainage are essential rights, and neglecting them is unacceptable.
