Lucknow was shaken by a daylight shooting in Gomti Nagar on Thursday after Divya Mishra, who worked at an ICICI Bank branch in the area, was allegedly shot outside the bank. Divya was the sister of YouTuber and journalist Pragya Mishra. The incident later took a more disturbing turn when police reportedly found that Divya’s husband, identified as Mans Bajpai, had allegedly shot his own sister before taking his own life.

The sequence of events has left three people dead and triggered a police investigation into what appears, at this stage, to be a case linked to a domestic or family dispute.

According to the information emerging from the investigation, Divya was at work at an ICICI Bank branch in Gomti Nagar when her husband arrived outside the premises. Reports suggest that he called her outside and spoke to her for some time before allegedly opening fire. Divya suffered serious gunshot injuries and was rushed to a hospital, but doctors could not save her.

The shooting happened in the middle of the day, in an area where people were going about their routine activities. The nature of the attack and its location quickly drew attention, while police teams moved to secure the scene and begin collecting evidence.

Pragya Mishra was among the first family members to publicly react to the incident. In an early social media post, she said she had received information that her sister had been shot in Gomti Nagar and taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. She appealed to people to pray for Divya’s safety.

Later reports confirmed that Divya had died.

The investigation then took a darker turn. Police reportedly traced the accused husband to his residence, located roughly two kilometres from the bank. According to the preliminary account, Mans allegedly went home after the shooting and opened fire on his sister, identified in reports as Sheeba.

He then allegedly shot himself.

Police and forensic teams subsequently examined both locations as investigators began reconstructing the sequence of events. Officers are expected to examine CCTV recordings, forensic evidence, the weapon involved and other digital material that may help establish what happened before and after the shooting.

The preliminary investigation has pointed towards a possible dispute between Divya and her husband. Some reports have claimed that Divya had approached a court for divorce around a year ago. However, the precise circumstances of their relationship, the status of any legal proceedings and the immediate reason behind the shooting will have to be established through the police investigation.

Another aspect being examined is a WhatsApp status allegedly posted by Mans. According to reports, the message contained accusations against his wife and referred to the deaths of his wife and sister as well as his own suicide. Police are reportedly looking into the digital material as part of the investigation.

Such digital evidence can become important in cases involving multiple deaths because investigators can compare online activity with CCTV footage, phone records, forensic findings and witness statements. However, the authenticity, timing and context of any alleged WhatsApp message must be independently established before it can be treated as definitive evidence.

The incident has also drawn attention because of Divya’s connection to Pragya Mishra, who is known for her work as a YouTuber and journalist. Her initial social media appeal brought wider public attention to the case while the family was still waiting for information about Divya’s condition.

For investigators, the central task now is to establish a clear timeline. The sequence reportedly began outside the ICICI Bank branch, continued at the accused man’s residence and ended with his own death. Police will need to determine how the weapon was obtained, whether anyone witnessed the shootings, what CCTV cameras captured and whether previous incidents between the couple provide further context.

The forensic investigation could also play a crucial role. Evidence collected from the bank premises and the residence may help investigators determine the order of events and establish whether the same weapon was used throughout the incident.
