Several schools in Chandigarh received bomb threat emails on Tuesday morning, triggering evacuations and a large-scale security operation as police and other agencies searched the premises for any possible explosive device.
Among the schools targeted was Vivek High School in Sector 38, where an email claimed that a bomb had been planted on the premises. The threat prompted school authorities to immediately alert Chandigarh Police and take precautionary steps to move students and staff to safer locations.
The incident comes just days before Independence Day, when security agencies across Chandigarh and the wider region remain on heightened alert. Officials said every threat was being treated seriously to ensure the safety of students, teachers and other staff members.
At Vivek High School, students who arrived with their parents were sent back home, while those already at the school were moved to a safe location outside the building. “Students who came accompanying their parents have been sent back home, while others have been moved to a safe location outside the building. They will be allowed to re-enter once the building is declared safe by the security agencies,” an official said.
Soon after the threat was reported, Chandigarh Police teams and other security agencies reached the school and began a detailed search of the premises. Security personnel checked different parts of the building and surrounding areas as part of the precautionary operation.
The immediate priority for authorities was to ensure that students and staff remained away from any potentially dangerous area while trained teams assessed the threat. A police officer said the email was received on Tuesday morning and the police were informed soon afterwards. With Independence Day approaching, the officer said the police were taking every emergency call seriously as part of the security arrangements for the celebrations.
