A 23-year-old former municipal election candidate associated with the Aam Aadmi Party has died under circumstances that have triggered serious allegations of murder and staged suicide, turning a quiet residential incident in Rajkot into a closely watched criminal investigation.
The deceased, Nandani Bosmia, who worked as a medical representative and had earlier contested the Jetpur-Navagadh municipal elections, was found hanging inside her fifth-floor flat in Rajkot on Monday evening. Police and emergency responders reached the scene after family members, unable to contact her, raised an alarm through an acquaintance. She was declared dead upon arrival by medical personnel, marking the beginning of a case that has since taken a deeply contentious turn.
Bosmia’s family has alleged that her death is not a case of suicide but a planned murder linked to a turbulent live-in relationship with a married man, Aslam Hussain Sama from Junagadh. According to her father, the two first met when Bosmia was renting a property owned by Sama. What began as an interaction between tenant and landlord reportedly evolved into a live-in relationship that later shifted to Rajkot.
Family members claim the relationship had been under strain for months. They allege Sama continued to maintain contact with his wife while living with Bosmia, leading to frequent arguments and escalating tension. Her father told police that Bosmia had repeatedly shared concerns about physical assault and emotional harassment, and had even left the flat temporarily after a particularly severe dispute.
“She was disturbed and wanted to leave, but she was pressured to return,” a family member alleged, adding that she had spoken about threats and repeated violence in the weeks leading up to her death. The family has also claimed that relatives of Sama had previously assaulted her in Junagadh, further deepening fears of sustained intimidation.
When Bosmia’s body was discovered, police noted that the flat door was partially open and that she was found hanging inside the hall. Preliminary observations by a doctor indicated death due to hanging. However, officials have stressed that such findings are not conclusive and must be confirmed through a forensic post-mortem examination.
Investigators have confirmed that Bosmia and Sama were in a live-in relationship and that their relationship had witnessed repeated disputes. While early assessment suggests the possibility of suicide, police have not ruled out foul play, especially in light of the family’s allegations that the scene may have been staged.
Rajkot Taluka Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated a detailed investigation. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the apartment, and statements from relatives and acquaintances are being recorded. Officials said the final conclusion will depend on post-mortem and forensic reports, which are expected to provide clarity on the exact cause and manner of death.
