Petrol prices in Chandigarh have now crossed ₹101 per litre, leaving residents worried about the growing burden on household expenses. The latest increase comes after the fourth fuel price hike in just 10 days, and many people believe the rates could continue rising in the coming weeks as fuel prices remain unstable across the country.
At several petrol pumps in the city, commuters were seen discussing the impact of the continuous hikes. Office workers, delivery riders, cab drivers, and daily travellers say the increasing cost of fuel is slowly becoming difficult to manage. Many residents feel that every small increase in petrol prices eventually affects almost every aspect of daily life.
For middle-class families, the concern is not limited to vehicle expenses alone. Higher fuel prices often lead to an increase in transportation costs, which later reflects in the prices of vegetables, groceries, milk, and other essential items. Local traders and small business owners are also worried that rising transportation charges may increase operational costs and reduce profits.
Several residents said that salaries and incomes are not increasing at the same speed as inflation. People who travel daily for work say their monthly fuel budget has gone up noticeably in recent days. Auto-rickshaw drivers and cab operators are among the worst affected, as they depend completely on fuel for their daily earnings.
Experts believe that if fuel prices continue moving upward, the effect will soon be visible across multiple sectors, including public transport, delivery services, and retail markets. Even online shopping and courier services could become more expensive if logistics costs continue to rise.
The continuous increase in fuel rates has also triggered discussions on social media, where many users are demanding relief from rising prices. Some residents believe taxes on petrol and diesel should be reduced to provide relief to common people already struggling with inflation.
