GT vs KKR: Under the bright lights of the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans delivered a confident performance to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in the Indian Premier League 2026 clash on Friday night. The victory marked Gujarat’s third consecutive win this season, while Kolkata’s struggles deepened as they slipped to their fifth defeat in six matches.

The night belonged to Gujarat captain Shubman Gill, whose composed and stylish 86 guided the home side comfortably through the chase. Gill’s innings combined elegance with authority, setting the tone early and ensuring the Titans remained firmly in control of the contest.
Kolkata’s troubles began almost immediately after they opted to bat first. Captain Ajinkya Rahane fell for a golden duck in the opening over, trapped by a sharp delivery from Mohammed Siraj. The early blow was followed by another setback when Kagiso Rabada produced a perfect outswinger to dismiss young Angkrish Raghuvanshi.
Things went from bad to worse when New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert, playing his first match of the season, mistimed a short-of-length delivery and was caught by compatriot Glenn Phillips. Within the powerplay, Kolkata had already lost three wickets and were struggling to find momentum.
Amid the early collapse, Cameron Green stepped up to stabilize the innings. The Australian all-rounder took a cautious approach initially but gradually opened up as the innings progressed. Once settled, Green began striking the ball cleanly, finding boundaries regularly and lifting the scoring rate during the middle overs.
He built a useful partnership with Rovman Powell and later added more runs alongside Anukul Roy. One of the most entertaining phases came when Green targeted Afghan spinner Rashid Khan, smashing multiple boundaries and sixes to keep Kolkata in the contest.
Despite his efforts, wickets continued to tumble at the other end, leaving Green to carry the bulk of the scoring responsibility. By the time he was dismissed near the end of the innings, he had already pushed Kolkata to a respectable total of 180 runs in 20 overs — a score that looked competitive but far from comfortable on a good batting surface.
Gujarat Titans approached the chase with clarity and confidence. Shubman Gill immediately put pressure on the bowlers, striking elegant boundaries through the off side and sending a towering six down the ground within the first few overs. His timing and placement ensured that Gujarat raced ahead in the powerplay.
While Kolkata managed to pick up a few wickets during the chase, they were unable to build sustained pressure. Gill continued to anchor the innings beautifully, mixing aggression with calm strike rotation. His knock featured eight boundaries and four sixes, and it provided the backbone of Gujarat’s successful chase.
The contrast between the two sides was most visible during the powerplay overs. Kolkata struggled early and crawled to 37 for three, whereas Gujarat raced to 71 for one, effectively setting up the match in the first six overs itself.
With this result, Gujarat Titans strengthened their position in the league standings, while Kolkata Knight Riders remain stuck at the bottom of the table with only one point from six matches. The Titans will next face Mumbai Indians, while Kolkata will attempt to turn their season around when they host Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens.
For Gujarat, the momentum continues to build with every match. For Kolkata, however, the search for answers — and their first win of the season — goes on.
