A tragic accident in Hubballi has claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy who was attempting to shoot a high-speed social media reel with his friends. The incident has not only left a family grieving but has also raised serious concerns about the growing trend of risky online content among teenagers.

The victim, Nameesh Sangalad, was the son of a BJP leader and local businessman, Veerabhadrappa Sangalad. According to police, the incident took place on Thursday evening in the secluded Shejawadkar Layout area near Unkal. Nameesh had recently returned from Mysuru, where he studied in Class 9, to celebrate Ugadi with his family.
On the day of the accident, Nameesh and a group of teenagers decided to film a dramatic reel involving two vehicles approaching each other at high speed and swerving at the last moment. Nameesh was riding an electric two-wheeler, while a Audi Q7 was allegedly being driven by another minor.
Police said the stunt quickly turned dangerous when the car driver lost control while attempting the maneuver. Instead of swerving away, the Audi crashed directly into the electric bike. The impact was severe, leaving Nameesh with critical head and leg injuries. He died on the spot, as confirmed in the First Information Report.
Hubballi Police Commissioner N Shashikumar stated that the teenagers were attempting an “action brake reel,” a risky trend often seen on social media platforms. The police have registered a case against the minor driver under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Nameesh’s father has filed a formal complaint, accusing the minor of driving in a negligent and zig-zag manner while filming the reel. Authorities are also investigating the involvement of others present at the scene, including those recording the video.
The Audi Q7 involved in the accident was originally registered in Noida in 2013 and later sold to a buyer in Hubballi, with transfer approvals completed in 2022. The electric bike was registered in the name of another individual from the city. Officials are now looking into how minors gained access to these vehicles.
