A peaceful Wednesday morning in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district turned into a horrifying ordeal for a six-year-old girl and her family when she was attacked by a pack of stray dogs in her neighbourhood.

Six-Year-Old Girl Brutally Attacked by Stray Dogs in Vijayapura, Karnataka

The child, identified as Anvita Mallikarjuna Shetty, had stepped out to a nearby shop carrying a plastic bag. CCTV footage from the area shows her calmly walking toward the shop and handing the bag to the shopkeeper, who is not visible in the video. Moments later, as she turns around to head home, a stray dog approaches her. The sudden presence of the animal appears to startle the little girl.

Sensing danger, Anvita quickly walks down the stairs and begins to run toward her house. Within seconds, the dog chases her, grabs her frock, and pulls her to the ground. The horrifying visuals show another dog charging at her. Soon, at least six dogs surround the child as she lies on the ground, desperately trying to protect herself.

Her screams pierced the silence of the street. A woman from a nearby shop rushed out immediately and chased the dogs away. Local residents gathered within moments and rescued the injured girl.

Anvita sustained injuries to her left eye, hand, legs, and back. Doctors at the district hospital confirmed that her left eye suffered a severe injury. She has been admitted for treatment, and medical staff are closely monitoring her condition. Family members remain hopeful for her recovery but are deeply shaken by the traumatic incident.

Residents of the locality say this is not an isolated case. Nearly two months ago, a young boy was also injured in a dog bite incident in the same area. The repeated attacks have sparked anger and fear among locals, especially parents who now feel unsafe allowing their children to step outside alone.

The incident has intensified demands for urgent action against the growing stray dog menace in Vijayapura. Community members are calling on authorities to implement immediate measures, including sterilization drives, proper waste management, and stricter monitoring to prevent such attacks in the future.

As Anvita fights to recover in the hospital, the community waits anxiously—not just for her healing, but for concrete steps that ensure no other child has to endure such terror on an ordinary morning.
