Two college students were booked by Hulimavu police in Bengaluru for allegedly assaulting a cab driver, members of the public, and police personnel following a late-night road accident in south Bengaluru on Friday. The incident reportedly took place when the two women, said to be under the influence of alcohol, crashed their two-wheeler into a cab near BTM Layout.

The accused have been identified as Liza, a resident of Bannerghatta Road in BTM Layout Second Stage, and Amran Mathew from Koramangala. Police confirmed that both are students pursuing their studies in the city.
According to the complaint filed by the cab driver, Ahmed Gurkar, 47, the collision caused the two riders to fall on the road and damaged the rear left portion of his vehicle. Gurkar stated that he initially helped the women stand up after the accident. However, when he asked them to compensate for the damage before leaving the spot, the situation turned hostile.
In his statement to the police, Gurkar alleged that the two women began abusing him using offensive language and soon turned violent. Police said the accused allegedly attacked him with their helmets and attempted to flee the scene. When bystanders stepped in and questioned their behavior, the women reportedly assaulted them as well, escalating the situation further.
The disturbance drew the attention of passersby, one of whom contacted the police emergency helpline 112. Hulimavu police personnel reached the spot shortly after. Officials said the women resisted when officers tried to detain them and created a commotion while being taken to a Hoysala patrol vehicle.
Both accused were brought to the Hulimavu police station, where their parents were summoned. A case was registered under relevant sections of the law based on the cab driver’s complaint and eyewitness accounts. Police officials said the women were released at around 3 am on Saturday after being served a notice, as the offences were bailable in nature.
The incident has once again raised concerns over drunk driving, road rage, and assaults on civilians and law enforcement officers in Bengaluru. Police have reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found endangering public safety or obstructing officials while performing their duties.
