Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh – May 19, 2025: In a significant development that has sent ripples through the security establishment, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Shahzad from Moradabad for allegedly working as an agent for Pakistan’s notorious intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The accused, identified as Shahzad, was taken into custody by the STF’s Moradabad unit on Sunday. According to official sources, his arrest followed specific intelligence inputs indicating his deep involvement in cross-border smuggling and espionage activities that posed a threat to India’s national security.
Involvement in Espionage and Smuggling Uncovered
During the investigation, STF officials discovered that Shahzad had allegedly been sharing sensitive information related to India’s security infrastructure with ISI handlers across the border. His activities are believed to have been ongoing for several years, with frequent visits to Pakistan raising serious red flags.
STF sources revealed that Shahzad was allegedly engaged in smuggling items such as cosmetics, clothes, spices, and other commercial goods across the India-Pakistan border. However, beneath this cover of illegal trade, investigators claim he was secretly transmitting critical intelligence to foreign agents.
Multiple Charges Filed Under Espionage Laws
A formal statement released by the Special Task Force confirmed that Shahzad has been booked under various sections of Indian law, including provisions related to espionage and national security breaches.
“He was passing sensitive information concerning national security to Pakistan-based handlers. His actions were not only unlawful but posed a serious risk to the integrity of the nation,” the STF said in its official release.
Frequent Trips to Pakistan Raise Eyebrows
Officials also highlighted Shahzad’s frequent visits to Pakistan, which are now under deeper scrutiny. Investigators suspect that these trips were used to establish direct links with ISI operatives, receive training, and deliver or collect crucial data.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are currently interrogating Shahzad to uncover the full extent of his network and determine if more individuals are involved in the alleged spying ring. Intelligence agencies are also working to trace the digital and financial footprints associated with his cross-border activities.
This arrest marks a significant success for the Uttar Pradesh STF in its ongoing efforts to crack down on espionage, cross-border smuggling, and anti-national activities.
