Chandigarh, March 10: The SAD crisis has gone deeper with party working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder sounding a warning to indiscipline. He stated that the party would not entertain any dissidence that goes against its basic tenets and resolutions.
Following the party’s parliamentary board meeting on Sunday, Bhunder said, “Everyone is entitled to voice their opinions in the party forum, but nobody will be permitted to go beyond the limits of party discipline.” He explained further that all anti-party videos and statements were being sent to the disciplinary committee, which would serve show-cause notices to the respective leaders. Action would be initiated based on their responses, he said.
The gathering, where senior leaders such as Gulzar Singh Ranike, Janmeja Sekhon, Mahesh Inder Grewal, Heera Gabria, and Daljit Cheema were present, was convened to discuss increasing unrest among the party ranks. SAD has been stern in its opposition to those who have been voicing dissent against its actions, especially regarding the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and its operations.
Increasing Rebellion in Sukhbir Badal Camp
There have been tensions rising in the Sukhbir Badal faction of SAD after the contentious ousting of the jathedars of Akal Takht and Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib on March 7. The move by the SGPC interim committee has caused an uproar among several senior leaders, such as Bikram Singh Majithia, who condemned the action outright.
The internal split risks undermining the party at a time when it is most needed, particularly with future political battles looming on the horizon. It is reported that a group of disgruntled leaders unhappy with the existing leadership is considering extreme action, which could further deepen the crisis.
With Bhunder’s stern warning and the party disciplinary process underway, only time will tell if SAD can muzzle the rising revolt within its own ranks or if the factionalism will culminate in more profound divisions.
