Taking to social media platform X, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the call, sharing that he had briefed the Prime Minister about the gravity of the flood situation. “I informed him how continuous rainfall in Assam and neighboring states has resulted in extensive flooding, causing hardship to countless people. I also shared details of the ongoing relief operations being conducted by the state machinery,” Sarma wrote.

He added that PM Modi expressed deep concern over the situation and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to aid Assam in its relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Meanwhile, weather authorities have issued warnings of continued rain, raising fears of further complications such as fresh landslides and rising river levels. Emergency services are on high alert as teams continue evacuation, provide shelter, and distribute essential supplies to the flood-hit population.
